MUS 4320 - The Nineteenth-Century Symphony: History, Performance and Analysis

Nineteenth-century symphony from middle-period Beethoven to early Mahler. Aesthetics of absolute music and program music. Performance practice considered through historical recordings. Detailed analysis of selected examples. (Formerly MUS 420) Satisfies the university general education requirement for the capstone experience. Satisfies the university general education requirement for a writing intensive course in the major. Prerequisite for writing intensive: completion of the university writing foundation requirement.
