Overview of the sociology of substance use and abuse. Reviews sociological perspectives, social control of alcohol and drugs, descriptions of alcohol/drug behavior and treatment programs. Explores how substance abuse problems can be addressed by policy makers, lawmakers, health care professionals, and criminal justice officials. Identical with (SOC 300 or SOC 3230 ).
