Requirements for the minor in world music
The department offers a minor in world music that is open to both music majors and non-majors who have had prior music performance experience and wish to study world music. The minor in world music is designed to enhance students’ ability to negotiate the theoretical, practical, cultural, and historical aspects of teaching and performing traditions of world music. Students will study the practices of various world music traditions in order to sustain their own education in addition to the education of current and future students. The minor will focus on refining performance and improvisational skills through private instruction, world music ensembles, music history courses, and a summer study abroad/directed research.
