The RN/MSN program is for diploma or associate-degree prepared registered nurses who wish to follow an accelerated plan of study for the Master of Science in Nursing in family nurse practitioner, adult/gerontology nurse practitioner or nursing education.

Students who wish to enter one of these programs must first be admitted to the RN/BSN program. A change in program status from the RN/BSN program to the RN/MSN program can be requested if: 1) a graduate from an associate degree program achieved an ADN cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, or 2) a student who does not have an ADN program GPA above 3.5 can request a change in status to the RN/MSN program after maintaining an OU undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better in 12 credits of courses required for the RN/BSN program (including NRS 310).

Once a student in the RN/MSN program attains undergraduate senior level status (minimum of 91 credits), he/she will be able to formally apply to either the nursing education, family nurse practitioner or the adult/gerontology nurse practitioner programs.

NRS 515 and NRS 516 will replace NRS 310 and NRS 340 in the RN/BSN program and graduate courses NRS 521 and NRS 610 will be waived, once a student begins coursework toward the MSN degree.
