Requirements for the liberal arts minor in music theory
The Department of Music offers a minor in music theory that is open to music majors and auditioned minors who wish to pursue expanded upper-level study of music theory at the undergraduate level. Interested students should contact music theory program coordinator Melissa Hoag (hoag@oakland.edu). The minor in music theory is designed to expand students’ knowledge of repertoire, impart up-to-date date training in the teaching of music theory, and increase students’ experience with analytical inquiry for the betterment of their musicianship. A minimum grade of C is required for each course.
NOTE: Students completing the Piano Pedagogy Degree or the Piano Performance with a specialization in pedagogy degree may double count 12 credits between the two programs.
Students must complete a minimum of 20 credits as follows:
