  • MUE 515 - Oakland Jazz Singers

    (0 or 1)

    Ensemble performance of complex jazz works. Development of jazz style and blend, scat-singing, solo production and microphone technique. One of the following activities or duties will also be assigned: a musicological study of the work performed, section leader, section rehearsal assistant, assistant conductor, or ensemble manager. Membership by audition.

    Orchestral performance of repertoire from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Several concerts per year, on and off campus. Accompaniments for solo concertos and university choral groups.     (2 credits)

    Techniques for pronouncing foreign languages in singing. Focus on International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), English, Italian, and Latin.

  • MUS 534 - Teaching Music to Special Needs Learners

    (2 credits)

    Designed to help students develop understanding of the needs of special learners and how they might better accommodate them in the classroom through curriculum design, teaching methods, and by providing an appropriate learning environment.

    (2 credits)

    Instructional strategies for teaching the intermediate and advanced piano student, including methods, materials and the use of music technology. Includes weekly observations and supervised teaching.

  • MUS 547 - Instrumental Teaching Studio

    (2 credits)

    Instructional strategies for teaching instrumental music in a private studio, including methods, materials, and music technology.

  
  • MUS 548 - Advanced Group Piano Pedagogy

    (2 credits)

    Overview of class piano laboratory technology, text selection, student placement, curriculum development, and assessment of student achievement. Includes observation and field experience assisting in the piano lab.

    Prerequisite(s): Student must meet prerequisites (MUS 541 and MUS 542).

  
  • MUS 550 - Vocal Pedagogy I

    (2 credits)

    An examination of the scientific and aesthetic principles of voice production, focusing on teaching others to sing. The diagnosis and correction of vocal faults and working with a damaged voice will also be addressed. MUS 550 is cross listed with MUS 450. Students cannot receive credit for both courses.

    Independent study for graduate students in the technique and literature of a performing medium. Offered spring and summer terms.

  • MUS 552 - Vocal Pedagogy II

    (2 credits)

    Continuation of Vocal Pedagogy I, wherein the science and art of teaching voice is given practical application. Students research and present on a variety of topics concerning vocal health and vocal pedagogy and work with singers in a studio setting to gain practical experience in solving vocal problems. MUS 552 is cross listed with MUS 452. Students cannot receive credit for both courses.

  • NRS 500 - Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Nursing Practice

    (3 credits)

    This course focuses on the theoretical foundations of advanced practice nursing, including nursing, health behavior, and family theories. Students will develop an understanding of the relationships among theory, research, and practice.

  
  • NRS 515 - Vulnerable Populations and Social Issues

    (4 credits)

    This course will focus on the concept of vulnerability and the role of nursing in meeting the health care needs of vulnerable populations. Developmental, social, cultural, racial, socioeconomic, political, and health care issues that predispose people to vulnerability, outcomes of vulnerability, and the cycle of vulnerability will be emphasized. Replaces NRS 450 in RN/BSN program.

    Prerequisite(s): Student must meet the prerequisite (NRS 310) and be admitted to the RN/MSN program.

  
  • NRS 516 - Health Policy, Finance and Nursing Management

    (3 or 4 credits)

    Outcomes, reimbursement, consumer expectations and quality standards and their impact on advanced nursing practice in managing delegating patient care will be explored. Health care policy and finance is explored in relation to government, reimbursement, quality, systems, consumers and professional and advanced nursing practice levels. Replaces NRS 355 in RN/BSN program.

  • NRS 521 - Diversity and Social Issues

    (2 credits)

    This course focuses on human diversity in health and illness to assure delivery of health care. Students will develop an understanding of the wide diversity of cultural influences on human behavior and variants in health including ethnic, racial, gender, and age differences from the perspective of the advanced practice nurse.

  
  • NRS 531 - Research Topics in Advanced Nursing Practice

    (4 credits)

    This course prepares graduate nursing students to evaluate knowledge generated through research and to apply this knowledge in the promotion of quality, evidence based nursing practice, population health, and safety.

    Prerequisite(s): Student must meet the prerequisite (NRS 500).

  
  • NRS 595 - Statistics in Advanced Nursing Practice

    (3 credits)

    Statistics in Advanced Nursing Practice assists students to develop a conceptual understanding of statistical analysis to appropriately evaluate its use in scholarly literature. This course also assists students in the analysis of research data collected to support examination of their own advanced nursing practice. NRS 595 is a prerequisite/corequisite to NRS 890, if the student has not completed an equivalent graduate-level statistics course.

  
  • NRS 598 - Holistic Perspectives on Aging

    (2 credits)

    This course is designed to enable the student to synthesize theoretical knowledge of physiological, psychological, developmental, socio-cultural, environmental, and spiritual factors in aging.

    Prerequisite(s): Student must meet the prerequisite (NRS 500).

  • NRS 605 - Advanced Pharmacology for Nurse Anesthesia Practice I

    (3 credits)

    This is the first of two courses designed to provide the student with an in-depth knowledge of pharmacology and its application to the clinical practice of anesthesia. The general principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics as well as the pharmacology of drugs used in anesthesia will be studied.
