ALS 5580 - Language and Society (4 credits)
Language in its social context: intrasocietal variation; social evaluation of language varieties (style, dialect) as an influence in language change; and the choice of a language variety as an index of group solidarity, social ideology and individual attitudes. Formerly ALS 576.
