A beginning course in the fundamentals of modern Mandarin Chinese and Chinese culture. This course is designed for true beginners or students with minimal prior experience, or equivalent placement. Conducted mainly in Chinese. CHE 1140, or any CHE course with 1140 as a prerequisite, satisfies the university general education requirement in the language and culture knowledge exploration area.
