Overview of corrections in the U.S. criminal justice system, history of punishment, rehabilitation, mass incarceration, ethics, sentencing practices, the prison experience from both the prisoner and staff perspectives, community based-corrections (probation and parole) and treatment efforts, racial and gender inequality, and prisoner reentry. Identical with SOC 3840 .
Prerequisite(s): CRJ 2100  or SOC 1000
