MIS 4560 - Introduction to Data Science

This course will survey the foundational topics in data science by reviewing the steps of completing data science projects, and also introducing data analytics tools and modeling techniques used for solving business management and decision-making problems. The main focus of this course will be on data science knowledge discovery process, data mining, predictive modeling, data visualization, classification, clustering, and decision support. By the end of this course, students should be able to prepare data for mining, set up classification and clustering data mining tools, and understand the advantages and pitfalls of different modeling techniques. Knowledge of Excel recommended. Cross-listed MIS 5560.
Prerequisite(s): QMM 2410  or EGR 2600  or STA 2221  or STA 2226  with a minimum grade of (C)
