CDS 4500 - Foundations in Clinical Laboratory Science (4) This course provides students with a foundational background in the clinical laboratory sciences. Topics covered include a basic overview of the core MLS areas of clinical chemistry, hematology, clinical microbiology, immunohematology, immunology, body fluids, and molecular diagnostics with focus on basic physiologic mechanisms, preanalytic testing considerations, analytical testing principles/procedures, and general clinical correlations. Laboratory processes including quality control, laboratory math, laboratory safety, accreditation and certification, care and use of common laboratory equipment, specimen collection and processing, and basic principles of phlebotomy will also be covered. This course should NOT be taken by current CDS majors. Additional Requirement(s): Sophomore standing required
