APM 4334 - Applied Numerical Methods: Matrix Methods

Systems of linear equations, Gaussian elimination, LU factorization, successive over-relaxation, approximation theory, curve fitting, eigenvalue problems, iterative techniques and non-linear systems of equations, some aspects of boundary value problems and introduction to numerical solutions of partial differential equations.  Required background includes courses in multi-variable calculus and linear algebra and knowledge of a scientific programming language. Cross-listed with APM 5334. Student may not receive credit for both courses.
Prerequisite(s): MTH 2554  with a grade of (C) or higher, MTH 2775  with a grade of (C) or higher and knowledge of a scientific programming language, or permission of the instructor
