Controls and diagnostics of automotive systems. Mathematical modeling; Feedback controls; Observers; Smith predictor; Kalman filter; Internal model principle; Repetitive control; Recursive least squares; Loop shaping; Affine parameterization; Engine models; Air-fuel ratio control; Variable valve control; Misfire diagnostics; Battery diagnostics; Vehicle lateral/longitudinal controls; Suspension control; Computer simulation using MATLAB/Simulink. This course is cross-listed with ME 5205.  Credit cannot be received for both ME 5205 and ME 4205.
