The Department of Human Development and Child Studies offers programs leading to a Doctor of Philosophy in education with a major in early childhood education, an Education Specialist degree in early education intervention, Master of Education (M.Ed.) degrees in early childhood education and in special education, graduate certificates, teaching endorsements, and professional certification. The M.Ed. in early childhood education includes the early childhood endorsement for those who are certified elementary teachers. An M.Ed. in special education includes a concentration in specific learning disability (SLD), emotional impairment (EI), or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that meets the requirements for the state approved teaching endorsement in the selected area. The concentration in applied behavior analysis meets the standards of the Behavior Analysts Certification Board (BACB). Graduate certificate programs that also meet state requirements for the ASD, EI and SLD endorsements are available. Graduate certificates in ABA meet course requirements or course and practicum hours requirements for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credential.
