The Department of Organizational Leadership offers a degree of Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development. This field of study focuses on four areas: organizational development, training and development, career/leadership development, and employment systems and standards and covers topics related to instructional design and delivery, lean leadership, program evaluation, performance appraisal, employee selection, recruiting, ethics, organizational development, principles of leadership, labor relations, employment law, employee involvement, and cultural diversity. Graduates are prepared with conceptual knowledge, technical and interpersonal skills for a variety of careers.
Departmental Honors
HRD honors are available to students who meet the following standards: a 3.50 or better cumulative average for all courses taken at Oakland University; a 3.70 or better cumulative average in department courses.
Related Minors and Concentrations
Students who wish to obtain a minor offered by SEHS must obtain the approval of a Human Resource Development academic adviser. If the minor or concentration is within a school other than SEHS, students must obtain approval from an adviser of the selected minor. Please note that one course cannot be used to satisfy the requirements of three categories under the Department of Organizational Leadership. This means that one course cannot be used to meet the requirements of an HRD major and two HRD minors or to meet the requirements of all three HRD minors.
