International Relations, B.A., Specialization in Global Justice and Sustainability

This specialization is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in the non-profit sector, nongovernmental organizations, or international organizations, or graduate study in this and related fields. Students will study topics covering the major challenges in global justice, including human rights, gender in international politics, democratization, the global environment, and underdevelopment.

Requirements for the liberal arts major in international relations with a specialization in global justice and sustainability


The major requires a minimum of 47 credits, plus a foreign language corequisite of up to 16 credits. Credit toward the major will only be allowed for course completed with a grade of C or higher.

4. Foreign language corequisite


Students must complete two years of a single modern foreign language or demonstrate equivalent competency at the second year level in a single modern foreign language.

Note


Students using this catalog to meet international relations with a specialization in global justice and sustainability major requirements may also use any course subsequently approved as satisfying requirements in the political science and economics, history and philosophy electives categories and published in a later catalog.

Additional Information


In addition to these major requirements, students must complete the Oakland University General Education Requirements, the College of Arts and Sciences College Exploratory Requirement, and an appropriate number of free elective classes to meet the overall credit requirement for the degree (in most cases 124; some degrees may require a greater number).

As a general rule, no more than eight credits of course work used to satisfy one major, minor or concentration may be applied toward another, but exceptions to this rule may be allowed with the written approval of the program coordinators.
