Mathematics, B.S. to M.A.

The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Mathematics to Master of Arts in Mathematics Program (B.S. to M.A.) option is designed for highly motivated and qualified students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Oakland University and wishing to complete a Master of Arts Degree in Mathematics directly following. The Accelerated B.S. to M.A. Program allows students to take three graduate level courses, MTH 5052, MTH 5075, and one of either MTH 5053 or MTH 5076 while still an undergraduate and pay undergraduate tuition rates. These three graduate-level courses will substitute for MTH 4552 , MTH 4775  and MTH 4553  or MTH 4776  within the B.S. in Mathematics Program.

To be eligible for the Mathematics, B.S. to M.A. option, students must:


1. Complete MTH 2554 , MTH 2775 , MTH 3002 , and STA 2226 .

2. Have a strong quantitative background and a major GPA of 3.3 or above.

3. Apply for and receive delayed admission into the M.A. program and thereby the substitution of graduate classes MTH 5052, MTH 5075, and either MTH 5053 or MTH 5076 for MTH 4552 , MTH 4775 , and either MTH 4553  or MTH 4776 . Note: Students must receive formal delayed admission into the program to be eligible to register for MTH 5052, MTH 5075, and one of either MTH 5053 or MTH 5076.

4. Complete MTH 5052, MTH 5075, and one of either MTH 5053 or MTH 5076 with a grade of (B) or better.

5. Maintain a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA to completion of the B.S. degree in mathematics.

Students admitted to this accelerated program can graduate with an M.A. degree in five years.
