Students must complete the Oakland University General Education Requirements, General College of Arts and Sciences requirements , College of Arts and Sciences Exploratory requirement , Major Requirements, and an appropriate number of free elective classes to meet the overall credit requirement for the degree (in most cases a minimum of 124; some degrees may require a greater number).
As a general rule, no more than eight credits of coursework used to satisfy one major, minor or concentration may be applied toward another, but exceptions to this rule may be allowed with the written approval of the program coordinators.

In order to graduate on-schedule without taking additional courses, it is highly recommended that students meet with an Undergraduate Academic Adviser concerning the selection of all of their general education courses. Each candidate for an Oakland University baccalaureate will need to satisfactorily complete approved courses in each of the following areas: Foundations, Explorations, and Integration. The Bachelor of Arts at the undergraduate level is intended for students interested in pursuing a state teacher certification at the 5-9 and 7-12 grade bands. 1. Students in this program must complete the requirements for a BA degree in the College of Arts and Sciences and concurrently fulfill the requirements listed below: 44 credits in English/English Language Arts (exclusive of composition courses used to satisfy the writing requirement) 2. No single major course grade may be below C. Successful completion of WRT 1060 and SED 1000 with a grade of B or better. 3. Students interested in continuing towards a secondary education certification will transition into the English Language Arts for Educators, BA/Teaching in Secondary Education, MAT, Combined BA/MAT . At the undergraduate level, the Combined BA/MAT program allows students to apply for and receive delayed admission into the MAT program. Delayed admission into the MAT program permits students to substitute the 12 elective credits in English (ENG) for four graduate level courses, SED 5000, SED 5100, SED 5110 and SED 5150, while still an undergraduate and pay undergraduate tuition rates. 10. At least one course in British literary history (ENG 32xx and ENG 33xx courses) and at least one course in American literary history (ENG 34xx courses).

12. Foreign language sequence
An introductory two-semester sequence in a foreign language, or American sign language or one semester of a foreign language at the 1150 level or higher or American sign language at the 1501 level or higher. |
