Requirements for the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate

Students qualify for a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate by completing the courses listed below. In all cases a student must complete the following 16 credits in linguistics courses at OU. Students interested in this certificate should contact an adviser in the Department of Linguistics.

• ALS 4418 - Teaching English to Multilingual Learners (4)  
• ALS 4438 - Curriculum, Material Design, Assessment and Compliance (4)  
• ALS 4960 - Practicum (4) 
• LIN 2201 - Introduction to Linguistics (4)  

Practicum eligibility

Eligibility for the practicum (ALS 4960 ) requires completion of ALS 4418  and ALS 4438  with a grade of B or higher and instructor permission.
