Schedule of Classes
Specific offerings for each semester may be found in the Schedule of Classes. General Education Requirements
In order to graduate on-schedule without taking additional courses, it is highly recommended that students meet with an Undergraduate Academic Adviser concerning the selection of all of their general education courses. Each candidate for an Oakland University baccalaureate will need to satisfactorily complete approved courses in each of the following areas: Foundations, Explorations, and Integration. For details, refer to the General Education Requirements section of the catalog. Requirements for the major in Latin American studies include
The major in Latin American studies requires 40 credits of interdisciplinary coursework. Language courses at the 1000 and 2000 level do not count toward the total number of credits for the major. Courses that are listed under more than one section can only satisfy the requirement for one section. A minimum of 15 credit hours of the major must be at the upper division level (course numbers 3000 or above). Latin American Studies (16 credits)
African and African-American Studies (8 credits)
IS 4995 - Directed Research, focused on Latin America (4 credits
Spanish Language at the 3000-4000 Level (8 credits)
Other coursework
With the approval of the International Studies Program director or faculty adviser prior to enrollment, students may also use the following courses for major credit provided that the specific course topic to be studied in any given semester is consistent with their chosen major. Note
Students using this catalog to meet Latin American studies major requirements may also use any course subsequently approved as satisfying requirements in the Latin American Studies or African and African-American studies areas above and published in a later catalog. Applicable Minors
All Minors are applicable to this major with the exception of the following Minor(s): Child Welfare, International Orientation for EGR/CS, Latin American Studies, and Sustainability Engineering. |
