Integrated Science, B.A.

Department Website

Students must fulfill the Oakland University General Education Requirements, the General College of Arts and Sciences requirements, the College of Arts and Sciences Exploratory requirement, and the Major Requirements. Additionally, students must complete a sufficient number of free elective courses to meet the overall credit requirement for their degree. A minimum of 120 credits is required, although some degree programs may require a higher total credit count.

General Education requirements


In order to graduate on-schedule without taking additional courses, it is highly recommended that students meet with an Undergraduate Academic Adviser concerning the selection of all of their general education courses.

Each candidate for an Oakland University baccalaureate will need to satisfactorily complete approved courses in each of the following areas: Foundations, Explorations, and Integration. For details, refer to the General Education Requirements  section of the catalog.

In particular, it is recommended candidates take the following course in the General Education Exploration area of Western Civilization: PHL 1310 - Introduction to Ethics in Science and Engineering (4) .

Requirements for the Integrated Science, B.A.


The Bachelor of Arts at the undergraduate level is intended for students interested in pursuing a state teacher certification at the 5-9 and 7-12 grade bands and/or for students that are broadly interested in the sciences and their applications.

  • Students in this program must complete the requirements for a BA degree in the College of Arts and Sciences and concurrently fulfill the requirements listed below.
  • No single major course grade may be below C.
  • Successful completion of WRT 1060  and SED 1000  with a grade of B or better.
  • Students interested in continuing towards a secondary education certification will transition into the Combined Bachelor of Arts (BA)/Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). At the undergraduate level, the Combined BA/MAT program allows students to apply for and receive delayed admission into the MAT program. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required to apply. Further details on program admission requirements and procedures can be found by consulting advisers in the Departments of Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics and the School of Education and Human Services advising office at 363 Pawley Hall, (248) 370-4182, or the School of Education and Human Services website.

10. Complete 12 elective credits in Biology (BIO), Chemistry (CHM), Environmental Science (ENV), Mathematics (MTH) or Physics (PHY).


Delayed admission into the MAT program permits students to substitute the 12 elective credits in Biology (BIO), Chemistry (CHM), Environmental Science (ENV), Mathematics (MTH) or Physics (PHY) for four graduate level courses, SED 5000, SED 5100, SED 5110 and SED 5150, while still an undergraduate and pay undergraduate tuition rates.

Applicable Minors


All Minors are applicable to this major with the exception of the following Minor(s): Child Welfare, International Orientation for EGR/CS, and Sustainability Engineering.
