Requirements for the major in Music Education and Performance, Bachelor of Music program (specialization in instrumental and general music)
The Bachelor of Music degree is intended for students who wish pre-professional and professional preparation in music education and/or performance. Students should consult the Undergraduate Music Handbook available on the department website, oakland.edu/mtd and should also consult with the departmental adviser in the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Office to plan their degree program. Only major courses in which a grade of at least 2.0 has been earned will count toward the major. Requirements are as follows:
Students majoring in music education/performance must successfully complete 170-188 credits as distributed in their specific curriculum: 40 credits of general education, 20 credits of professional education requirements, and 110-120 credits in music requirements. A. General Education Requirements — 40 credits
Satisfies the arts requirement
Count as writing intensive in the major
Counts for the capstone in the performance major
Modern foreign language course
(115 or higher) counts toward foreign language requirement B. School of Education Requirements – 20 credits
Michigan Test for Teacher Certification
Basic Skills, Music Education Language: modern foreign language course
(115 or higher) (4-8) History or theory elective course selected from
Keyboard Techniques (according to proficiency)
Minimum of 2 credits selected from
Ensemble
Large ensembles: Band or Orchestra (must enroll every semester of major) (8)

Note
*A minimum grade of 3.0 is required in all professional courses. Application for music education major standing takes place upon completion of MUS 241 . |
