The Department of Human Development and Child Studies offers programs leading to a Doctor of Philosophy in education with a major in early childhood education, degrees of Master of Education (M.Ed.) in early childhood education and in special education, teaching endorsements, and professional certification. The M.Ed. in early childhood education includes the early childhood endorsement for those who are certified elementary teachers. A Master of Education in special education includes a concentration in specific learning disabilities (SLD), emotional impairment (EI) or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that meets the requirements for the state approved teaching endorsement in the selected area(s). Certificate programs that also meet state requirements for the ASD endorsement are available.
