Program description
The Master of Education in educational leadership is designed to prepare building-level administrative leaders who are willing to grow and change - to transform - continually throughout their careers, while also seeking to stimulate and facilitate transformation within a school. Program graduates embrace the moral and ethical dimensions of leadership, adapt to the challenges and changes of a diverse society, and have the abilities to reflect, collaborate and think critically to provide the experience that allows teachers and students to respond effectively in the present and in the future. Graduates are eligible for the Michigan Building-Level Administrative (Principal) Certificate.
Admission terms and application deadlines
Before an applicant’s file can be reviewed for full program admission, all application documents must be received in Graduate Admissions by the semester deadlines listed below.
All applicants to this program are admitted for the fall semester only. The application deadlines are:
A cohort begins in the fall term. The cohort is filled on a rolling basis to a maximum of 20 students.
Application requirements
To be considered for graduate admission, applicants must submit all Graduate Application Requirements and additional department requirements by the published application deadlines:

- Requirements for recommendations
The recommendation forms must be from individuals in a supervisory relationship to the applicant
- Goal statement
- An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0.
- Communication skills commensurate with graduate-level scholarship.

Admission review and assessment
Admission to graduate school at Oakland University is selective. In making admission recommendations to the Oakland University Graduate School, each department assesses the potential of applicants for success in the program by examining their undergraduate records, goal statement, letters of recommendation, prerequisite courses and any other admission requirements established by the academic department.
