Program Description
Sponsored by Oakland University and endorsed by the College Board, participation in the AP Institutes will strengthen your school’s academic success. These four-day conferences offer excellent training for both experienced teachers and those that are new to AP. The program will offer experienced teachers the opportunity to learn about new and emerging trends in their content areas. For teachers that are new to AP, the program is a chance to become better informed about the fundamentals of the AP program. Oakland University’s institute is ideally suited for department chairpersons, gifted and talented teachers and curriculum coordinators.
Registration Requirements
- Participants are required to attend the entire workshop.
- Participants who miss more than 10 percent of the summer institute will not be eligible for a certificate of attendance.
- Course materials and details about the institute will be handed out at the first session, and as such, attendance is highly recommended

Workshop Description
Participants will learn about topics related to:
- Structuring AP courses
- Responding to student feedback
- Utilizing a variety of proven teaching methods
- Preparing students for the AP exam while keeping instruction engaging
- Developing AP exam-taking strategies
- Reviewing released AP exams
- Diagnosing scores-what constitutes a 3, 4 or 5?
- Sharing a variety of College Board essentials
- Receiving appropriate AP textbooks and resources
